 | Johnny, who has been living in Galway for well over 30 years, is one of Ireland's foremost entertainers. He is a well known and popular face that has appeared on almost every entertainment show in Ireland.
Johnny began playing music at the tender age of 13, when his father introduced him to a brass/reed style of music in Castlerea. He began playing the cornet, before graduating to the trumpet. Johnny's earliest musical memory is when he was just 13 years old travelling around to gigs and doing is homework in the back of the van! His early music was played with The Premier Aces and The Magic band. It was his debut solo album, A Touch of Class, that paved the way for this top class instrumentalist on the showbiz ladder.
Johnny has played with some of the biggest national and international stars, from Johnny Cash to Andy Williams. Throughout his career, he has recorded a total of ten albums, bringing his original trumpet sounds across the globe. One of the highlights of his career was playing in Croke Park with the Artane Boys Band on four separate All Ireland Final days where he performed to a live audience of 70,000 people whilst also being viewed worldwide. He is an artist whose unique brand of music has allowed for a wide and varied fan base both at home and abroad.
"I have witnessed many changes within the music scene throughout my career and am happy to be still going strong 50 years into the business," he says.
In the later years of his performing career, Johnny has toured on cruise ships and spends a lot of time touring in Spain. However, he has not forgotten his Irish musical roots and still performs on a local level. From the hundreds of requests made to the programme, one is selected and a plot is hatched up to try and catch out the listener in the best way possible.
In bringing this selection to the public ear “again”, great credit goes to the 9 people for their kindness and sense of humour, especially considering that all these surprise calls are made absolutely live and therefore anything can happen at any moment and indeed it usually does.
All proceeds from the sale of the CD are going to the Mayo Mental Health Association and to Western Care on the occasion of their 40th Anniversary, providing an invaluable service to people with special needs in the region.
A big thanks to Viv Brennan, who spent many hours preparing the calls for the CD and indeed to all the team at Mid West Radio for their help and assistance and finally most importantly to the 9 people who appear on this recording, your humour and patience are much appreciated.

 | Matt Cunningham’s interests and achievements in the world of Irish set dancing are well documented at this stage but his forthcoming musical release demonstrates that he is equally committed to preserving the Irish Ceili dances and two hand dances that have overtime often been overshadowed and forgotten.
For those who are not aware, there is a distinct difference between Set Dancing and Ceili and two hand Dancing and there is at present a growing number of dancers who are taking more of an interest in the Ceili and 2 hand dances than ever before. These enthusiasts will be delighted then to hear that Matt has just released two New CDS. One containing music for 15 ceili dances and the other for 15 two-hand dances. Similarly to the music contained in Matt’s 14-volume collection, which is primarily for set dancing, all the music on these two cds is played to the correct length and tempo.
Matt stated that he had in the past recorded music for a selection of these dances but that was at a time when some of the members of his family and band were not part of his musical group. Therefore, to enhance the sound of this collection Matt has re recorded the majority of the existing material and recorded new music for many of the other dances for the first time.
In Matt’s own words “I have for sometime now been encouraged that the ceili & two hand dances were not left behind while the set dancing flourished. It is important that all three styles are kept alive and developed together. This collection makes it easier for the dancer and tutor who are interested in ceil and two hands to have access to the required music on two separate CDs.
Matt also stated “when I decided to have all of the music available in one collection I also decided that I would make the necessary changes to tempos that were required and also wanted to ensure that the accordian, fiddle, banjo and flute sound that people were accustomed to on my other recordings was reflected on the two cds.”
For those who simply enjoy listening to the sound of Matt’s music the collections also features the best of Irish traditional music and is also a hit with those who are more inclined to set dancing:

 | The fourth Saw Doctors studio album, "Songs From Sun Street", began to fall together in the Spring of 1997, over innumerable cups of tea in Kenny Ralphs Studio in Sun Street in Tuam, Co. Galway. Writing and recording with Padraig Stevens, one of the founding members of the band back in 1988, the Saw Doctors produced about twenty bits and pieces on a demo tape, which got a critical airing on the tour bus during the USA tour in April/May '97. During the course of some 30 shows across America, the rifts, half verses, and tunes were twisted and turned each night in front of a live audience. In between five subsequent visits to North America to promote the compilation record, "Sing A Powerful Song", the Saw Doctors used any spare time they had to touch up some of the songs, write some more, and re-record the whole lot again. All this happened at a very natural and leisurely pace, and the final fifteen songs were mixed by John Brough in London in August 1998. More |

The set includes excerpts from the thoroughly traditional "numbered" albums that made the group's reputation but also covers their pan-Celtic explorations, duets with stars of other genres, including Bela Fleck, Nanci Griffith, Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos, plus encounters with notable Irish performers like Sinéad O'Connor, Van Morrison, and The Corrs.
